Our vSurvey solution to run voice-based surveys of communities has found some very interesting uses. Here is what our partners have to say about it:
Jon, from Inventure
InVenture is a mobile technology company facilitating financial inclusion through simple mobile accounting and credit scoring tools for the offline world. InVenture’s first product is InSight, an SMS and voice-enabled financial management tool for individuals living within the informal economy. Powered by Gram Vaani’s vSurvey technology, Voice InSight enables individuals to perform basic accounting, demonstrate creditworthiness, and access financial services, all by simply placing a missed call to a local number.
InVenture captures over 10 income and expense indicators from its users, and has so far used vSurvey over 1,500 times.
Anuragini, from Sesame Workshop
Sesame has been using our Mobile Vaani network to make their Galli Galli Sim Sim program available over radio and phone. Analysis of the data on the number of callers, frequency of callers and the average duration of listening revealed that most of the people were calling, but were not listening to the entire program (30 minutes duration). In order to find out, what is it that people like, who is listening and for how much time, a small survey was carried out. This was done in two ways:
- Community Radio stations called random numbers from the list of callers and asked few related questions; and simultaneously,
- Gram Vaani used vSurvey to conduct voice based surveys to random callers from the respective stations.
These surveys helped in understanding, which segment of the episode (song, story, interactive segment and community segment) people are listening to most. This helped us create a segmented radio-over-telephone section, which is being piloted at two CR stations – Alfaz-e-Mewat and Radio Mewat.
Sahana, from Video Volunteers
As part of UNDP’s project Saksham in Eastern UP, Video Volunteers used vSurvey to get data from over 1,000 women SHG members on what kind of help they needed most from their SHG federations. The survey revealed that by far the dominant need of the SHG members was information for new jobs. Livelihood creation is one of the greatest needs in rural India, but despite government schemes such as MNREGA, there remains a lack of opportunities in rural areas which leads to widespread rural-urban migration. The same kind of statistics were also revealed by the migration campaign we ran on our Jharkhand Mobile Vaani network.
