Principal District Judge K. Murali Shankar on Sunday said the new model legal service camp would act as a bridge between the public, judiciary and government departments. It would also create awareness of free legal services and public welfare schemes available to the people.
Inaugurating the camp held at MVM Higher Secondary School near here, he said the objective of the legal camp was that both the government departments and the judiciary must work together for the welfare of the public. The camp would increase awareness of the services and benefits earmarked for them by the government.
Dindigul District Legal Services Authority Secretary C. Vijayakumar said 33 DLSAs in the State would follow the model for conducting legal service camps. The benefits of legal aid should reach the doorstep of each and every person. The petitions received collected from the public at the camp would be forwarded to the departments concerned for immediate action.
Superintendent of Police R. Sakthivel said the police were creating awareness among the people about protection of women and children.
Mobile Vaani
The district judge introduced Mobile Vaani, a voice service offering 10 kinds of free services including healthcare, child rights, women issues, workers’ problems and legal services. If a person pressed number three, they could get information about legal aid.
Ordinary mobile phones would suffice to access the facility. The pubic could record their opinions also.
S. Divya, president of Tamil Nadu Textile and Common Labour Union would act as coordinator. If a person gave a missed call to mobile number 92666 16777, the caller would receive a call immediately to record the information or complaint. Later, the merits of the complaint would be verified and forwarded to the officials concerned for further action. Full confidentiality would be maintained.
A total of 35 stalls set up by various departments of State and central governments, local bodies and NGOs displayed details about various welfare schemes and facilities. Cultural programmes were also held. All judges and judicial magistrates in the district took part.
