Gram Vaani’s model for social change

We realize that there are unique challenges in making change happen in the rural environment. No one person or agency can achieve it by itself. It requires participation of multiple stakeholders who are committed to a common vision. We strongly believe that the success of our vision lies in our ability to involve and engage with the right institutions and individuals who share our passion for social change.

Gram Vaani’s model for social change is built on four themes:

If you share our passion for community empowerment and participatory media, please get involved. There are many ways you can do that:

1. NGOs: Our NGO friends are our connect with the community. As an NGO, you can be one of the pilot sites for our technology or business solutions. We will also be keen to talk to you and learn from your experiences of working on rural development and community empowerment.

2. Corporate: Our corporate friends will play an important role in helping us scale up our reach and impact. If you are a corporate, we can work together to think through how to effectively reach your rural consumers - tell them about your products and hear from them about their needs. If you already have a rural infrastructure, together we can think about how to make it more efficient. If you are looking to get involved in social change in rural India, Gram Vaani could be your vehicle.

3. Researchers: Knowledge on participatory media and rural development is still in its early stages of evolution. If you are a researcher in policy, sociology, or media, do get involved. We will be keen to work with you to help conduct long term research on the effects of media on democracy and development, or just share our own ideas with you. Please write to us about your research plan and we would love to discuss more.

4. Professionals and students: One of the biggest challenges we face is in getting good, talented people excited about this kind of work. So if you want to be part of our team in any way, do get involved:

• If you are involved in software or hardware development of IT services for rural areas, and you are looking to pilot your ideas or deploy your technology, please write to us about it. We would be very glad to help you test out your ideas with our partners and collaborators.
