Mobile Vaani is a method of connecting with remote and hard to reach population, especially those with limited literacy. Using the mobile vaani platform, you can disseminate specific information to your target population, allow access to frequently asked questions with the option of asking their own questions, enables discussion between different members of target population, and much more. Being accessible from any regular phone by simply dialing a phone number, Mobile Vaani removes the barriers of Internet connectivity and literacy to enable significantly large reach compared to any other form of communication technology. Mobile Vaani allows the following basic functionalities, which can be combined together to enable powerful forms of communication:

Mobile Vaani Prompts

In order to successfully Mobile Vaani service, following audio snippets are required, which are played out to the caller during the call. Such audio snippets are referred to as prompts.

mnews_welcome__Main.mp3 This is the first prompt played after the call is connected. The prompt should contain a welcome message and provide some information about the purpose/capability of the service (if needed).
mnews_instructions__Main.mp3 This prompt is played after the welcome prompt. The prompt informs the caller about the different things that he/she can do by pressing different buttons. It also informs the caller about the presentation of the content after this prompt. Typical content of this prompt should be: “Next we will present to you items one after another. At any point of time to skip the currently playing item and move to next one press 1. To record a comment on an item press 2. To contribute your own item press 3.”
mnews_leave_comment__Main.mp3 This prompt is played after a caller presses 2 to leave a comment. This prompt provides instructions for leaving a comment. Typical content of this prompt is: “Please record your comment after the beep. Be sure to leave your name and address. After you have finished recording press any key to continue.”
mnews_ack_comment__Main.mp3 This prompt is played after the caller has recorded a comment. It is generally a good idea to let the caller know what you will do with the comment (publish it, give call back, etc). Typical content of this prompt is: “Thank you for your comment. We will evaluate it and publish it for others to hear as soon as possible. You will receive an SMS when the comment is published.”
mnews_contrib_record__Main.mp3 This prompt is played after a caller presses 3 to contribute an item of his/her own. This prompt provides instructions for recording a contribution. Typical content of this prompt is: “Please record your item after the beep. Be sure to leave your name and address. After you have finished recording press any key to continue.”
mnews_contrib_thank_you__Main.mp3 This prompt is played after the caller has recorded an item. It is generally a good idea to let the caller know what you will do with the item (publish it, give call back, etc). Typical content of this prompt is: “Thank you for your contribution. We will evaluate it and publish it for others to hear as soon as possible. You will receive an SMS when the item is published.”
mnews_contrib_announce.mp3 This prompt is played after all the items have been played to the caller. This prompt encourages the caller to make a contribution of his/her own. Typical content of this prompt is: “To record your own item please press 3.” This prompt is repeated 3 times before the system ends the call.
mnews_starting_comments__Main.mp3 When an item has one or more comments published for it. The comments are played to the caller immediately after the item. This allows the logically correlated content to be played together. However, before the systems starts playing the comments, it plays this prompt to indicate the start of comments. Typical content of this prompt is: “Following are the comments recorded for this item.”
mnews_thank_you__Main.mp3 This prompt is played at the end of the call. It should appreciate the caller’s time and have any additional information you may want to deliver to the caller.
