This is a truly remarkable story! Khabar Lahariya is a rural newspaper run by women in Chitrakoot. It was started in 2002 pretty much as an experiment, but has since emerged as a symbol of women empowerment and democratic participation by the oft-neglected rural and tribal populations of India. They now boast a circulation across more than 200 villages in the districts of Banda and Chitrakoot. The spirit of Khabar Lahariya is very much in line with Gram-Vaani’s vision of enabling rural communities to participate in news discussions and get their voices heard across the world.
